Indy game dev Jay Young has unveiled the first effort from Mind Relay, Tiny Robot Justice Squad, a “Action/Platformer/Arena Shooter hybrid” which is slated for release in mid 2015 through Steam Greenlight.
The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics researcher, who describes himself as “a firm believer in big guns, big bosses, big explosions and quick-paced platform gameplay” is hoping to raise money for the charity Gamesaid with his first retail release.
The press release describes the game as “featuring a sequence of different arenas which might host unique enemies, gimmicks, or boss fights. These are connected together to form a progression, with traps, tricks and traditional-style platforming sections linking different parts of a level.”
Speaking on Mind Relay’s press release, Young stated that “Mind Relay serves as a vehicle for me to express my love of game design and development. Mind Relay is a registered Social Enterprise in the United Kingdom — a Community Interest Company (Incorporation #09306904) — which is a special kind of business model meaning 100% of the money the company makes goes to support charitable causes.
With regards to the unique nature of the developers business model, the indy dev remarked that: “As far as I am aware, this is the first time the Community Interest Company business model has been applied to video game development.”
Along with a sufficiently jammy soundtrack, the official site for the game briefly describes the story, which includes a vengeful AI, formerly tasked with managing bean curd processing plants, who seeks to annihilate humanity once and for all!
